Welcome To Hatfield Woodhouse Primary School

August 4, 2010 in Community, Front Page News, Parents by Mrs H Acton

Welcome to Hatfield Woodhouse Primary School website!

It’s the summer term at Hatfield Woodhouse Primary School! The year is sailing by so quickly I can’t believe it’s the time to tell you about Sports Days and SATS tests!

Academy Status

On 1st April 2012 we officially became a School Partnership Trust Academy. In accordance with the wishes of the governors (who were keen that the school kept its good name and reputation) the school will still be called

‘Hatfield Woodhouse Primary School’

The school uniform will remain the almost the same:- from July the new sweatshirts and cardigans will sport the SPTA swoosh logo (see the letterhead) on the sleeve, as well as our school badge on the front.

Once the DMBC sign for the school is replaced with our new sign we will have an official opening of the school as an academy.

Changes to Year 6

We are blessed with outstanding teachers at Hatfield Woodhouse Primary School but one of those teachers is now going to develop her career at another school. Miss Julia Hird will leave school on Friday 27th April to become the deputy head teacher at Edenthorpe Hall Primary School. Whilst we will miss her at HWPS we wish her well in her new role.

SATs

I am pleased how well the majority of our Year 6 children are revising for their SATS. Many parents have purchased the revision guides and attendance at revision classes has been good.

There has been a change to the way that the writing tests are administered. These are now purely down to teacher judgement rather than a one off test – which we are delighted about. It should give a much more rounded assessment of the children’s writing instead of relying on several factors to come together on one day in May. It is important that ALL children attend every day between now and the end of the test week, especially on Monday 14th, Wednesday 16th and Thursday 17th May,- so that they have the best chance possible to shine.

Please send them to school even if they are off-colour.

Reading and Maths assessments will be tested in the usual way on: -

Monday 14th May :- Reading Test

Wednesday 16th May: – Mental Maths Test and Maths Paper A (no calculator)

Thursday 17th May:- Maths Test B (calculator allowed)

We have also been selected to trial the new Science test for Year 6 on Friday 4th May.

Olympics

We are looking forwards to the summer Olympics and using the children’s enthusiasm for Britain hosting the event to build their learning power. We will be looking at the Olympic values in assembly and investigating with the children how we can adapt our curriculum to capitalise on Olympic excitement!

On Monday 18th June Active Fusion will support us in holding our own Olympics Day, complete with opening and closing ceremony, sporting and craft/designing activities. Parents will be invited to the closing ceremony -weather permitting.

Sports Day will now occur on Thursday 21st June for all children, as Year 5 have been invited to take part in an inter-school Olympics Day for the Hatfield Pyramid of schools on Wednesday 20th June.

Olympic Torch

On Tuesday 26th June the Olympic Torch will be carried through Hatfield. I believe this will occur in the afternoon and  plans are in place to ensure this is a memorable day for our children. I am meeting with the council to see if it will be safe to take school children to watch the torch procession which will finish at the bottom of Jubilee Bridge or if we watch the live-feed on a big screen. I will let you know as soon as suitable arrangements has been made.

Parental Survey

Thank you to every-one who contributed their opinions about our school to this year’s survey. We were really pleased with the results overall and your positive comments.

Yours,

Helen Acton – headteacher

YEAR 5- Nature Walk

May 15, 2012 in Community, Front Page News, Oh What's Occurring? by Mr Wain

Today, Year 5 went to the Hatfield Moors to learn about their locality. They spent the day walking from Boston Park, all the way back to school. Throughout the walk, we learned about the history of the land and how so many rare and exciting species of plants, insects, reptiles and animals live here. Watch this video to see a birds eye view of our 10 mile walk!

10th Annual Doncaster Primary Schools Cross-Country Event 2012

May 13, 2012 in Front Page News, Sporting Celebrations, Uncategorized, Whole School Celebrations by Mrs McCONACHIE

Mrs Acton & Mrs McConachie would like to say a huge thank you to all the children & parents from Hatfield Woodhouse Primary School, for attending the Cross Country Event at Hill House School.  All the children involved were a credit to the School and put 100% effort into their race and made us so proud.

We also would like to thank the Parents & Friends Team for purchasing the new running tops for the school, enabling the children to look very smart on the day.

I sincerely hope the day has given food for thought to training toward competing in next years Cross Country Event.

With parent support we would also like the children to attend and compete in more sporting activities outside of school hours.

Well done all and thank you so much.

May 4, 2012 in Art in School, Creative Arts, Front Page News, Literacy (5) by Mr Wain

In Year 5 we have been studying the features of performance poetry. We have written our own, based on the Theme of water, which is our topic this term. Can you spot examples of; similes, metaphors, personification, humour, rhyming, alliteration, rhythm, onomatopoeia?
