February 13, 2012 in Community, Front Page News, Sporting Celebrations, Uncategorized by Mrs McCONACHIE

Date for your diary. The Doncaster Primary Schools Cross Country Event will be held at Hill House Independent School on Saturday 21st April 2012. Children will be chosen from the running club to represent the school nearer the event.

I have also received below some exciting information regarding Doncaster’s Brooks Run 10KM and Community Challenge Fun/Run

Dear School,

You may have seen recently in the PRESS and heard on the RADIO of an exciting new event for DONCASTER in our very special OLYMPIC YEAR, on Sunday 13th May 2012.

The BROOKS RUN DONCASTER 10KM event is run in conjunction with DMBC. This will be Doncaster`s first ever mass participation 10km road run and Community Challenge Fun/Run which is being run over 2km.

The event is starting and finishing at our famous Doncaster Racecourse and taking in TOWN FIELD, MARKETS AREA, FRENCHGATE CENTRE and returns to finish at RACECOURSE.

I wish to inform you that printed entry forms will be on their way to you shortly. Please would you be so kind to distribute amongst pupils and staff to encourage participation in what is going to be a great event for the town.

The main race is aimed at adults over the age of 16 years who can run 10km, but we have a great FUN/RUN which is just over 1mile and aimed at anyone that wants to take part who maybe under the age of 16 or not quite ready to run the 10k!

We would also like to inform you of a FREE RUNNING WORKSHOP aimed at children between the ages of 8 and 16 years. This is being held on SATURDAY 18TH FEBRUARY at the KEEP MOAT STADIUM ATHLETIC TRACK from 10am to 1pm. The event will be packed with loads of FUN, PRACTICLE SESSIONS, ADVICE and the chance to win prizes!

Kindest regards,

David Tune

Bag 2 School collection

February 9, 2012 in Community, Front Page News, Parents, Parents & Friends Association, Staff by Parents and Friends

The Parents and Friends Association has organised another textile collection .

The last collection in October raised £320 for the school!!!

By getting involved in our Bag2School collection, you have an opportunity to sort through your cupboards and wardrobes and donate unwanted textiles in the bag provided – this can include adults’ and children’s clothes, shoes (tied together please), hats, belts, bags, soft toys, curtains and bedding (not duvets or pillows). We will receive £500 per tonne or £0.50/kg which will be a great boost for our fundraising. In addition it will also raise awareness amongst the children of the benefits of recycling and reuse.

Blue collection bags will be handed out to children week commencing 6th February.

Please bring your bag (or bags!) to the Metal container inside the main playground. Bag2School will then collect all the bags from school on the 16th March (make sure bags are in by 9am).

Help us have a really good collection.

Thanks,

Parents & friends team.

Gordon Harper visits year 6 to talk about former Hatfield Woodhouse pupil, Corporal John William Harper

October 6, 2011 in Community, Front Page News, Parents, Students, Uncategorized, Year 6 by Miss HIRD

We would like to say a huge thank-you to Gordon Harper for his presentation on Corporal Harper. We found his presentation very interesting and informative. We have shown a deeper interest in our WWII history topic after his entertaining visit.

Both the people of Merksplas and Hatfield Woodhouse Primary School are extremely grateful for the heroism of Corporal Harper’s valiant service. We know how hard it is to receive the Victoria Cross and for Corporal Harper to get it, that is a sign that he was, and always will be, an honoured and memorable man.

We are so proud that this noble and selfless soldier attended our humble school and had such a close connection with our community. We honour Corporal Harper’s significant sacrifice for his squad and for Merksplas’ citizens.

We would once again like to say a great big thank-you to Gordon for giving up some of his time to come and visit us and tell us this fascinating story and considering it was a tragedy, we will always remember the unfortunate death of Corporal Harper.

Food Glorious Food!

October 4, 2011 in Breakfast Club, Community, Front Page News by Mrs McCONACHIE

Breakfast Club children were definitely asking for more with the introduction of pancakes on the last Tuesday of every month. With a full Breakfast Club on Wednesday the children enjoyed a choice of spaghetti or beans on toast, cereals and yogurt.

As you may already be aware, at Hatfield Woodhouse Primary School we are working hard to Build our Learning Power. We aim to develop our pupils learning power, not just so they can complete school learning more easily and effectively, but so they will leave school with a general purpose set of habits and attitudes which will serve them well in all areas of life.

Please click on the links below to find out more about BLP and suggestions as to how you can help your child continue to Build their Learning Power whilst at home.

A Cracking Start To The Day!

September 17, 2011 in Breakfast Club, Community, Front Page News by Mrs McCONACHIE

Children at Breakfast Club had a cracking start to the week with boiled eggs and soldiers on Monday. Breakfast Club was full on Wednesday with spaghetti and beans on toast on the menu.  The children are thoroughly enjoying the new variety menu and starting the day with a healthy breakfast.

Breakfast Club starts baking on Thursday with the help of Yr 6. Thank you to all the parents who have enquired about baking donations, it is very much appreciated.

A big thank you to Centurion Europe Limited for donating the stainless steel egg cups.

Thank you for your continued support.

Kind Regards

New Lunchtime Running Club

September 17, 2011 in Community, Front Page News, Sporting Celebrations by Mrs McCONACHIE

Key Stage 2 children can now take part in a lunchtime running club. Years 3 & 4 will be on Tuesday and Years 5 & 6 will be on Thursday. Children will require outdoor kit to take part. Earrings must be removed and children with asthma must have their inhaler in school.

The school will be entering the Doncaster Primary Schools Cross Country event held at Hill House Independant School next year.

I hope you will encourage your children to take part in the running club and help us promote sport and a healthy school!

Thank you for your continued support.
