F! January newsletter

January 10, 2012 in Foundation Stage, Front Page News by Mrs A KING

9 January 2012

Dear Parents/Carers

It is lovely to have the children back, after what was hopefully a lovely Christmas break for all. Please take a few moments to read these messages.

Topic work

This half term our topic is Fairytales. Please encourage your child to talk about these stories at home. We are beginning with ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’. If anyone has any unwanted items related to this topic, we would be very grateful for donations of things such as dressing up outfits and fairytale toys/games etc.

Spare clothes

As you would expect at this age, children in F1 often have toilet accidents. We have just had to purchase more underwear, and we are running quite low on spare clothes. If your child goes home wearing any items of clothing from school, please wash and return these items as soon as possible. Also, if anyone has any unwanted clothes, perhaps that your child has outgrown, we would appreciate donations to use as spares.

Winter Weather

Despite the unfortunate British weather, children must have access to outdoor play (except for in extreme conditions). Please ensure that children have appropriate clothing, and encourage them to try to put things on independently. It would be helpful for children to leave wellington boots and a waterproof coat at school, as our playground very often has lots of puddles and mud on it!

Names in clothes

Finally, a reminder to please put children’s names in their coats, cardigans, jumpers, hats, etc. Even shoes, if you have noticed that another child has the same style.

Thank you for your continued support,

Mrs King.

FS/KS1 Christmas Concert and Party

November 28, 2011 in Foundation Stage, Front Page News by Mrs A KING

All F1 children will be ‘stars’ in our concert.  We would appreciate it if you could send a
large, plain white t-shirt for your child to wear. This should have no logos or
motifs and should be long enough for your child to wear without trousers
underneath (possibly adult-sized). Please do not send a ready-made outfit for
your child to wear. We would like all of the children to wear the same outfit
at minimal cost. All children will wear matching star headbands, which will be
made in school.

Our Christmas party is on Wednesday 14th December,
starting at 12:30pm and finishing at 3:30pm; therefore there will be no morning
session on that day. Children should have lunch before they arrive, as they
will only be given party snacks and drinks. Any contributions of party snacks
would be gratefully received. Children are free to come in party clothes!

Thank you.

Foundation 1

November 19, 2011 in Foundation Stage, Front Page News by Mrs A KING

Apologies for the delay in this post, I have had some technical difficulties!

Our topics this half term will be Winter and Christmas. Within these topics, we
will look at seasonal changes, the Christmas story and various Christmas songs,
as well as Light and Dark.

We aim to allow the children to access outdoors in most weather conditions, so it
would be helpful if children could have wellies and a waterproof coat at school
throughout the week. We are also encouraging the children to try to put on and
fasten their own coats, so practising this at home would be very helpful (if
they cannot already do so).

Thank you for your support.

Read Around Reward

November 10, 2011 in Foundation Stage, Front Page News, Parents, Uncategorized, Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5, Year 6 by Mrs McCONACHIE

Reading is a skill for life!

At Hatfield Woodhouse Primary School, we encourage children to read every night. Each class has a Read Around map with a theme or class topic. At the beginning of each week your child’s reading record and journals are checked, if they have read to an adult 3 times a week or more your child will move 1 step along the map.

At the end of term children who have completed or moved the furthest will be rewarded for their hard work with a fun activity. Last year children were rewarded with a Technology Day, Sports and Games and a Board Games Day.

The Read Around reward for this term will be a Treasure Hunt. The children will have lots of fun reading clues and solving problems to find the treasure. The reward will be held on Tuesday 13th December.

Please ask your child what their Read Around is?

FS2 will take part in the Read Around in the New Year.

Thank you for your continued support.
