Bag 2 School collection

February 9, 2012 in Community, Front Page News, Parents, Parents & Friends Association, Staff by Parents and Friends

The Parents and Friends Association has organised another textile collection .

The last collection in October raised £320 for the school!!!

By getting involved in our Bag2School collection, you have an opportunity to sort through your cupboards and wardrobes and donate unwanted textiles in the bag provided – this can include adults’ and children’s clothes, shoes (tied together please), hats, belts, bags, soft toys, curtains and bedding (not duvets or pillows). We will receive £500 per tonne or £0.50/kg which will be a great boost for our fundraising. In addition it will also raise awareness amongst the children of the benefits of recycling and reuse.

Blue collection bags will be handed out to children week commencing 6th February.

Please bring your bag (or bags!) to the Metal container inside the main playground. Bag2School will then collect all the bags from school on the 16th March (make sure bags are in by 9am).

Help us have a really good collection.

Thanks,

Parents & friends team.

Fancy winning a £10 gift voucher? Why don’t you enter our ‘Green Fingers Competition’?

As the Gardeners of HWPS, we are working hard to look after and improve the outdoor areas of school, not only to improve the school environment but also so we can make greater use of the outdoor space to help us with our learning.

We are seeking the help and expertise of members of the school and local community. We wish to send out a letter to local businesses and community groups to ask them if they could support our projects by providing help and advice or materials.

We invite you to write a letter to inform members of the school and local community what we aim to do and asking for any support or advice. The person who pens the winning letter, chosen by the Gardeners, will win a £10.00 gift voucher and their letter will be sent out to the community.

All entries need to be handed to the Gardeners by Thursday 23rd February and the winner will be announced in the celebration assembly on Friday 24th February.

The Great Graffiti Debate: Is it ‘art’ or vandalism?

January 15, 2012 in Front Page News, Parents, Uncategorized, Year 6 by Miss HIRD

In literacy, Year 6 are learning about persuasive writing and in particular persuasive arguments. We have been finding out about graffiti and the differing views people have towards it. We will be debating the question, ‘Is it art or vandalism’, at the end of this week and we would value your own opinions on the subject.

Love it or loathe it, everyone has an opinion on graffiti. On one hand it costs councils thousands of pounds every year to remove it from public property. However, for some, it’s one of the greatest forms of modern art. So what do you think?

Year 4 Design and Technology – Photo Frames

January 5, 2012 in Front Page News, Parents, Year 4 by Miss RICHARDS

For our design and technology project the children will be researching, designing and creating their own photo frames.

For homework this week i have asked the children to research and collects images of 3 of their favourite frames and write sentences explaining why they like those frames.
They can cut pictures out of magazines, print photographs and images found on the internet or draw them free hand. This is the research part of the project and will need to be completed by Monday 9th January as this is when we shall start designing our own frames to create and build.

I have also asked the children to bring in materials to use to build their frames e.g. cereal boxes, cartons, card, decorations etc.

Their photo frames need to be free standing and have a facility to be able to change the photograph either through a slot or a door. They will also be judged on their appearance also with a Design and Technology award for the best and most innovative, creative and unique frame.

Could the children please have their research homework completed for Monday and bring materials in for Wednesday please as this is when we shall make a start on constructing the frames.

Many thanks

Miss Richards

Read Around Reward

November 10, 2011 in Foundation Stage, Front Page News, Parents, Uncategorized, Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5, Year 6 by Mrs McCONACHIE

Reading is a skill for life!

At Hatfield Woodhouse Primary School, we encourage children to read every night. Each class has a Read Around map with a theme or class topic. At the beginning of each week your child’s reading record and journals are checked, if they have read to an adult 3 times a week or more your child will move 1 step along the map.

At the end of term children who have completed or moved the furthest will be rewarded for their hard work with a fun activity. Last year children were rewarded with a Technology Day, Sports and Games and a Board Games Day.

The Read Around reward for this term will be a Treasure Hunt. The children will have lots of fun reading clues and solving problems to find the treasure. The reward will be held on Tuesday 13th December.

Please ask your child what their Read Around is?

FS2 will take part in the Read Around in the New Year.

Thank you for your continued support.
