Read Around Reward

November 10, 2011 in Foundation Stage, Front Page News, Parents, Uncategorized, Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5, Year 6 by Mrs McCONACHIE

Reading is a skill for life!

At Hatfield Woodhouse Primary School, we encourage children to read every night. Each class has a Read Around map with a theme or class topic. At the beginning of each week your child’s reading record and journals are checked, if they have read to an adult 3 times a week or more your child will move 1 step along the map.

At the end of term children who have completed or moved the furthest will be rewarded for their hard work with a fun activity. Last year children were rewarded with a Technology Day, Sports and Games and a Board Games Day.

The Read Around reward for this term will be a Treasure Hunt. The children will have lots of fun reading clues and solving problems to find the treasure. The reward will be held on Tuesday 13th December.

Please ask your child what their Read Around is?

FS2 will take part in the Read Around in the New Year.

Thank you for your continued support.

Topic work for this half term.

October 30, 2011 in Year 2 by Mrs KANTECKI

We are looking forward to a very busy but fun half term leading up to Christmas.  We are starting our topic work off with a BANG! (Not literally) but we will be learning all about Guy Fawkes and the Gun Powder Plot.  We will then be moving onto Diwali and Rememberence Sunday.  We have a textiles art week planned where all children will be sewing to make something special for Christmas!  It will be lots of fun!  We will be learning new songs in preparation for Christmas too – it will be here before we know it!!

Please Help! We need some new toys and games for Golden Time!

October 30, 2011 in Front Page News, Year 2 by Mrs KANTECKI

If you have any toys, games or puzzles at home that you no longer want – please consider donating them to Class 2.  We are very short on games and toys that the children play with during thier Golden time on Friday afternoon.  All of our children work hard all week to ensure they can enjoy Friday afternoon, so we want to make sure it is fun for them.  Any unwanted toys would be greatly appreciated.  Please send them to Mrs Kantecki if you have any to donate.

Class 2 visit to Abbeydale Museum in Sheffield.

First of all we met Florence Nightingale.  She showed us some medicines that were used in Victorian days, even the leeches! Yuck!  Then we made our own medicine for a headache using lavendar, it made the room smell lovely!

Then we looked in the Victorian cottages that the manager and workers families lived in.  It was very different to how we live – thank goodness!

After lunch we all had to pretend we had travelled back in time to the Crimean war.  The boys were injured soldiers in the Scutari hospital – it was filthy! The girls were Florence Nighingales best team of nurses that she brought with her to sort it out!  It was VERY hard work, but after alot of scrubbing, cleaning and rat catching those nurses soon had that hospital spick and span! They gave the soldiers clean bandages and dressings and helped them get better!
