Year 4 Spring Term

This term is going to be packed full of exciting new topics and activities for year4. Below is a brief outline of some of the major topics and events that are to come.
Literacy: We will continue to follow the Primary Framework, learning about;
Stories from other cultures, Information, explanation texts and poetry.
Numeracy: We will continue to follow the Primary Framework in maths, building on our learning from the Autumn Term
The children will be tested each week on their 2,3,4,5 and 10 times tables and house points awarded for the fastest times. Please could you support your child by testing them on their allocated number.
Humanities: Chembakolli and India. Looking at the similarities and differences between village and city life in India. Celebrating the culture, sampling the food and learning authentic indian dancing.
R.E: This term we learn a lot about the religions of India with the focus of Sikhism.
P.E / Games: Winter Olympics / Tag Rugby
Please can you make sure that you have the correct kits for Indoor P.E on Tuesday and Outdoor kit on Thursday – (Please refer to the school Prospectus if you are unsure, tracksuits are not suitable for indoor use)
(A Winter Olympic Games and Rugby tournament will take place at the end of the term)
Science: Helping plants grown, Rocks and soils
ICT: Databases, image manipulation
Thank you for your continued support for reading at home, a record number of children took part in the Autumn Term Read Around Reward. Our assessments support our belief that children who read regularly to parents at home, often make better progress in all subjects.
In year 4 we have also recognised that reading has a great impact on the quality of children’s writing too. Big Talk homework shall continue to be issued on a Wednesday and the children have now been issued with planning books in literacy to be able to structure and plan their writing before completing written pieces.
