Year one enjoyed a wonderful day comparing the weather in Hatfield Woodhouse with that of Cape Town, South Africa. The children arrived at school wearing clothes that would keep them warm on a cold and rainy day. They brought to school with them an outfit to change into for a hot sunny day – more in keeping with South African weather. The children enjoyed presenting weather reports in front of the camera – indeed we have some budding BBC 1 weather reporters in class one! Many thanks to all parents for taking the time to help the children prepare their outfits!

Our new topic has got off to a flying start with the children throughly engaging with the topic. We have a safari look out hut in our classroom complete with african costumes and wild animal masks. The children have enjoyed retelling the story of Handas Surprise and are currently writing thier own Handa stories. We have made plasticine fruits, tasted the real thing and Hugh’s mummy continues to come and support us with baking. This term we are busy making South African inspired treats! Ben was not so keen on the milk tart!!!! We have also made our own African cloth using the tie dye technique.
We would also like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Marshbank and Auntie Jean who have spoken to us about thier experiences whilst living in South Africa.
