Year one – raft and boat building

Our pirate topic this week helped us to improve our science skills. Early in the week we looked at the properties of materials and helped a mermaid to mend her torn tail. We then used the knowledge we had gained to build rafts and boats. Our challenge was not only to build a raft that floated but that could also carry pirates!! We had great fun selecting materials and trying out our ideas over at the testing station. We certainly were building our learning muscles as we tried to solve problems and work collaboratively.
